Linux - Domain Propagation
When you first order your site, your domain will undergo what is called propagation. This is the time it takes for your domain name to be recognized globally by web browsers. It typically takes 3 days to accomplish this. From the time you order until this is complete, you won't be able to see your site using yourdomainname.com. Instead you will only be able to see it using your IP address. This is a 4 section number that you can type into the web address of your browser instead of a domain name. It looks something like this: 216.117.191.30 which is AIT's IP address.
If after 3 days, your domain name does not resolve to your server, contact AIT using the support ticket system and we will discover and solve the problem.
Even though your web address will not resolve until propagation has finished, you can still access your site in a web browser. Type your IP address into the address text box in your browser and you will be able to see your site. This will enable you to upload your files using an FTP client, preview them, beta test and configure them before the rest of the world knows about your site.
You can also access your SMT 4.0 (Cpanel) by typing: http://your IP Address/cpanel/ along with any other features your server has by replacing your domain name with your IP address. The last / on the end is important, as the cpanel will not work without the last / until after propagation. You can also access your SMT 5.0 from http://order.aitcom.net by loging in and clicking "Manage SMT 5.0" on the left. Both the SMT 4.1 and 5.0 offer the same basic features, but offer a slightly different interface. The SMT 5.0 is more closely integrated with your customer care center for your convenience.
